The carnival arrives at the beach every summer, bringing with it the sounds, the lights, the music, and the mystery only a carnival can impart. But this year, it's brought something more, this year something out of Greek mythology has traveled with it, in search of a long-lost love.
"The Pan Man" is a young adult, paranormal short story. It first resided on the LASR website after having received an honorable mention in a contest hosted by them. It was a step away from my typical genre, so receiving an honorable mention for the story was very delightful for me. This version is expanded, and therefore reads as a new story.
The gypsy, Larue Dubois, makes her first appearance in "The Pan Man". She will emerge again in the novella, "The Image" due for release in the winter of 2011.

I occasionally read young adult so I can stay in tune with what my sons' older daughters read. I think this short story is still a little old for them, but high schoolers and above will identify with the common elements that one sees in TV shows like The 100 and movies like the Divergent series. In The Pan Man, likable heroine Christy is experiencing the same dream night after night. Since this is paranormal, then it follows that dreams are significant. Throw in a fortune teller, reincarnation, and a fated love and you have a story older teens will love.Product details

The Pan Man by loretta Wheeler is a paranormal love story of two lovers trying to make their relationship work. It has a happy ending and Mrs. Wheeler knows how to paint pictures with her words so you can see everything in your mind. I hope she will write more stories like this soon so we can have more of her work!
The Pan Man, a YA paranormal love story by Loretta Wheeler, appeals to both teens and adults. Christy's sweetness comes through in the beautiful prose as she connects with her dream man. I look forward to reading more of the gypsy, Larue Dubois. Great short story!
THE PAN MAN
I just finished reading The Pan Man and really enjoyed it. Loretta's writing is so descriptive that it really pulls you into the story, it made me excited to know if her character is really going to meet the man of her dreams and when, I highly recommend it.
What a sweet story this is. Christy keeps dreaming about Pan and can't understand if the dream is ominous or not. She seeks out a "gypsy" at the carnival who assures her the dream is a good sign and that soon she will understand its meaning. What unfolds is a lovely paranormal romance to be enjoyed by all.
The Pan Man was just a delight to read. The paranormal element was a wonderful surprise and read like a secret. A dark, deep, awe-inspiring secret. I cannot wait to read the next story by Ms. Wheeler!
This a haunting and sweet love story. The young lady has the same dream night after night. She dreams about a man who is Pan half the time and human the other half. She is very concerned about this. Throw in a so called Gypsy and the story takes off. Lorettta creates characters that you care about. I highly recommend!
